Can this item be requested?

In order to place a request on an item, it must be both Lendable and Available. This information can be found in the full view of any item record.

Lendability is determined by "Location" and "ILL Lender" columns.

  • If the "Location" column shows a location that includes the words "Not Requestable," then that library does not lend that item through ComCat, and the "ILL Lender" column will be blank.
  • If the location does not include the words "Not Requestable" and the "ILL Lender" column reads "ILL Lender," the library does lend that item through ComCat.

Availability is determined by the "Status" column.

  • If that column reads "Not Available," it means the item is checked out or not available for lending at this time; it may be available for lending in the future.
  • If the column says "Available," it is on the shelf and ready for use.
  • The one exception to this format is if the "Location" column includes the words "Checked Out," and the "Status" column is blank. This alternative format is used by some libraries and means that the item is Lendable, but Not Available at this time.

In order for a request to be successful, the item must be both Lendable and Available.

1. This item is LENDABLE and AVAILABLE.

2. This item is LENDABLE, but NOT AVAILABLE.

2.5. ALTERNATIVE FORMAT: This item is LENDABLE, but NOT AVAILABLE.

The location includes the words "Checked Out."

3. This item is NOT LENDABLE.

The location includes the words "Not Requestable," and the "ILL Lender" field is blank.
