Patron Hits Request Limit

Sometimes, an avid user of ComCat will run into this message when trying to place a request:

Patrons are only allowed 10 active requests at a time according to ComCat policy.

Whether or not a request counts towards this 10 item limit is determined by its status.

(Please refer to our chart on "Statuses that count toward the ILL limit" for more information.)

Staff accounts do have the capability to override the request limit. This is not advised for most situations as it goes against ComCat policy.

Often, a patron may reach their limit of 10 but have some old requests that are in "Retry" or "Unfilled" that are counting towards their limit. To help them to place more requests:

  • From the Staff Dashboard, in the ILL Admin tab under "Borrower" click on "Patron Browse"
  • View the patron's requests in the table and determine whether or not some of them can be deleted. For example, requests in "Unfilled" and "Retry" statuses count towards the request limit, even though they are not being filled at this time. Canceling or deleting these will allow the patron to place more requests.
  • Clear up old requests by updating their status to "Cancel" or "Delete" (don't forget to press Submit!)
